Italian Market Festival

As each year goes by it’s becoming less and less Italian, but the essence and flavor of the market is carried-on and always worth a visit.

Philadelphia’s South 9th Street Italian Market is the nation’s oldest outdoor market (http://italianmarketphilly.org/). The merchants invite you to join them in a one-of-a-kind celebration on May 14th and 15th, the Italian Market Festival. It’s an extravaganza for the senses — streets lined with vendors offering every Italian delicacy possible, live entertainment, fun contests and more! Come on down for a cant’-miss-day of family fun.

Highlights Include:
-Stages with Live Entertainment
-Half Ball Tournament to benefit the Mummers Fancy Brigades
-Procession of the Saints

SEYAA Spring Carnival

These photos were taken at the SEYAA Spring Carnival in South Philly.  It’s at 7th and Bigler until April 24th.
It’s a great place to eat some funnel cake and have a kitschy good time, while supporting athletics for young people.

**Note**Southeast Youth Athletic Association is a volunteer non-profit youth organization serving children between the ages of 4-19.  SEYAA serves over 2500 kids per year in various sporting activities year round.  What we LOVE about Shelley’s photos is that they were all taken with an iphone!

 

Pasta and Beyond

A walk through Philly’s 9th street Italian Market is like a journey into the culinary delights of the past. The oldest and largest working outdoor market in the United States, the market is currently host to over 100 merchants. A stroll through vendors with tables overloaded with fresh fruits and vegetables punctuated with meat shops, fishmongers, and old world cheese shops. Have some fresh pasta made before your eyes at Talluto’s, pick up some good aged Parmesan at Di Bruno’s and dinner is done. We left with a week’s worth of food for $70.00.

And a firm warning from a local crazy warning us not to take his photo again.
