Trolling the streets searching for your next tattoo inspiration, shop or artist? With the highest tattoo per capita ratio of any urban area (ok, I made that up, but it really seems true) among the string of tattoo shops along 4th street, Philadelphia Eddie’s tattoo Haven needs to be on the top of your list to check out.
In 1989, Legendary tattoo artist Eddie “Funk” opened the first of the onslaught of tattoo shops lining 4th street. When Crazy Philadelphia Eddie retired, ownership of his shops were offered not to his son, with whom a bitter tattoo rivalry had formed, but to the workers in the shops. This shop was taken over by Troy Timpel in 2002, who along with a handful of the city’s most well knows artists such as Don “mf” Juan, and Professor “Ouch”, runs one of the most thriving shops in the city, keeping the old school feeling Eddie created, while balancing large, intricate tattoo studio custom work, to walk in quickies.
